Profile

I have been a teacher for over 25 years, during which time I have taught Foundation 1 through to Year 4. However the majority of this time has been spent teaching within the infant years.

For 5 years I was a Primary Strategy Consultant specialising in the Early Years. During this time I supported many schools with Foundation Stage practice as well as trained practitioners in designated CPD sessions or bespoke staff meetings. I initially led the Communication, Language and Literacy Development Programme to roll out the Letters and Sounds synthetic phonics teaching programme across the city. I also led on transition to Year 1 and developing early reading. I was a Foundation Stage Profile moderator in both Leicester City and Leicestershire (having led this process in the City) and became an SLE 6 years ago.

As Deputy Head I taught in a large 90 place EYFS base and then moved to Year1. During my 5 years in role I oversaw whole school assessment and attendance, was an EVC and sat on the governing body where I was the training coordinator.

Relevant experience in specialism

During my teaching career I have been a Foundation Stage Coordinator in a variety of Infant and Primary schools within Leicester City. I have also been Leading Teacher for the Foundation Stage, a Deputy Head as well as a joint Acting Head.

I have been in post as Lead Practitioner for BEP and STEP for the last two years working with a wide variety of schools supporting practitioners in EYFS and KS1. I lead the EYFS Coordinators Network and STEP SLEs group as well as providing a wide range of training for EYFS, early reading and phonics. I have recently been leading a cluster for a SSIF funded project on improving disadvantaged boy’s attainment in writing. Liaising with teaching schools across the county I work closely with other Leads to organise and deliver various conferences including those for NQTs and SLEs.
