Profile

I completed a lower primary PGCE with Leicester University and have experience working with children aged from 3-7. I have been teaching at Gaddesby Primary School for the last five years and am also a Director of the feeder pre-school, which is in close proximity to the school site.

My work at Gaddesby Primary School is ever evolving and during the last five years I have gained tremendous experience and been involved in a range of continuing professional development. I have coordinated the EYFS team, overseen KS1 during a colleague’s maternity year, am an accredited Forest School Lead practitioner and have recently been awarded with a Postgraduate Certificate In Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCo).

I have a clear, apparent love for both teaching and early childhood education, and ensure that a child’s well-being is at the forefront of my teaching practice and ethos.

“As a dedicated practitioner, Katie shines in the classroom. She is committed to her job and ensures her pupils make excellent progress through a range of varied activities… Katie is a gifted teacher who really does understand learning and pedagogy, with a particular strength in the Early Year Foundation Stage.” (NLE Colleague)

Relevant experience in specialism

I have also recently been part of two LEEP funded projects including a School Readiness Project and a LEEP into Writing Project. During the School Readiness Project I gained expertise in developing transition between pre-school and primary school settings. Significant impact was evident through the raised baseline scores of mathematics and literacy development. During the LEEP funded writing project I completed a research project exploring methods of developing writing in the Early Years and presented my research, into the use of provocations, at an Early Years conference.

I have worked closely with STEP in the past two years, facilitating on a number of training opportunities. I have collaboratively worked with Graeme Flinders, a highly skilled maths specialist, in developing training to target EYFS practitioners for utilising Numicon for early mathematical fluency and exploration skills. I have also been involved in delivering training to NQTs on Forest School practice and have recently developed training to support HLTA’s with their pedagogical understanding of teaching in the Early Years.
