As an SLE, my areas of expertise focus on the development of reading and writing in KS1 and how to improve vocabulary in children’s writing using Talk for Writing strategies. I have led inset training on supporting the development of whole school reading across the STEP group and have supported other schools to implement a book banding system.

I have 9 years of teaching and leadership experience and have taught in both lower KS2 and KS1 predominantly in year 2. I became the Assistant Headteacher and KS1 leader at Eastfield in 2016 and have helped to successfully embed a new team into the school. I have also been a SCITT and NQT mentor for the last few years supporting trainees and NQTs and modelling good practise. I am really passionate about teaching English having studied it at University and particularly enjoy using Talk for Writing techniques to support children’s writing.

Relevant experience in specialism

I began supporting other schools in 2015 providing general assistance on planning and classroom management on a 1:1 basis and then became an SLE in 2015 as a specialist in English focusing primarily on KS1. I have regularly led training and supported schools across STEP and BEP. Through 1:1 school support, I have worked with staff across different schools to support the planning and teaching of English and Maths and have provided support programmes for teachers new to year 2. This involved visiting schools to support teachers with their English and Maths planning on a weekly basis to ensure effective curriculum coverage and to help prepare staff for external moderation.

In addition to this, I have delivered training across the STEP Teaching School Alliance including writing moderation sessions for year 2 and RQT training to help support them through the performance management cycle.
