Outreach support available

My main areas of strength are class based support and working with Teachers and TA’s. I have delivered training in ‘What makes a good science lesson’ and ‘Supporting Science Teaching’; led Science development meetings and Science CPD sessions; completed science book trawls and learning walks; and facilitated moderation meetings.

I also have experience of organising events to raise the profile of science and the science capital of pupils, both within schools and across the STEP Science Network. I enjoy working with staff in other schools and offering school-to-school support. I have also had experience in curriculum development.

I have over 8 years of teaching experience across the school right from Year 1 to Year 5. I am very experienced in supporting trainee teachers and teachers new to the profession as both a SCITT personal tutor and an NQT mentor. Prior to working in education, I was a youth worker. I worked for the disabled children’s team in Ceredigion and the Youth Offending Services in both Ceredigion and Leicestershire. I enjoy working with hard to reach young people and building relationships with pupils. I have worked in various positions, in several different primary and secondary schools since 2007. I have a passion and enthusiasm for science, a subject that has been my own personal focus since I was at primary school myself; through to degree level and now as a science leader. I believe science is not just a subject or topic; it is a way of thinking!

Relevant experience in specialism

I began my SLE experience with STEP in 2017 as a specialist in Science. I have led training to support schools across STEP and BEP. I have experience of working with staff in schools to support delivery of the science curriculum. In addition to this, I have delivered training across the STEP Teaching School Alliance for Teachers, HLTAs and Cover Supervisors. Also, as part of my SLE role, I have facilitated Science Network meetings for local Teachers and Headteachers.
